📍The Pyramids of Giza
Start at the Giza Plateau, home to the great trio: the Great Pyramid of Khufu (Cheops), builder of the Great Pyramid, his son Khafre (Chephren), and Menkaure (Mykerinos), the smallest of the three and the only one whose lower casing included enormous blocks of Aswan granite. These monumental tombs have watched over the desert for more than 4,500 years.
The Great Pyramid was originally about 146.5 meters (481 feet) high and remained the tallest human-made structure in the world for roughly 3,800 years.

📍Great Sphinx & Valley Temple
Continue down toward the Great Sphinx, with its human head and powerful lion’s body carved from the bedrock. Nearby, enter the ancient Valley Temple, built from massive blocks of Aswan granite and forming an important part of Khafre's funerary complex, connected to the Pyramid of Khafre by a long causeway.
The temple is remarkably well preserved, and its huge granite walls give you a glimpse of the engineering and craftsmanship that went into Egypt’s Old Kingdom monuments.

Built during the 3rd Dynasty, around the 27th century BCE, it is widely recognized as the world's first monumental stone pyramid and one of the earliest large-scale stone structures in history.

Your first stop is the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, one of Alexandria's most fascinating archaeological sites. Dating mainly to the 2nd century CE, this underground necropolis was carved into the rock during the Roman period. Descend below ground, and you'll find burial chambers decorated with an unusual blend of ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artistic traditions.
That's what makes Kom El Shoqafa so unusual. Egyptian funerary beliefs didn't simply disappear when Greek and Roman influence arrived. Instead, different traditions came together in the artwork.
💡 Insider Reveal: The name Kom El Shoqafa means “Mound of Shards,” a reference to the piles of broken pottery once found around the site.
📍Qaitbay Citadel
Next, head to the waterfront and Qaitbay Citadel, one of Alexandria's most recognizable landmarks. The fortress was built in the 15th century by Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaitbay on the eastern harbor, at the site traditionally associated with the ancient Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
The original lighthouse was built during the Ptolemaic period, probably in the early 3rd century BCE, and guided ships into Alexandria's harbor for centuries before earthquakes gradually destroyed it.
Step onto the citadel's walls and look out across the Mediterranean. You're standing at the meeting point of two Alexandrias: the Ptolemaic city of Cleopatra VII and the medieval city of the Mamluks.
📍Bibliotheca Alexandrina
Continue along the waterfront to the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the modern library and cultural complex inspired by the legendary Library of Alexandria.
The original library was established during the Ptolemaic Kingdom and became one of the ancient world's great centers of scholarship. Scholars came to Alexandria to study mathematics, astronomy, philosophy, medicine, literature, and other fields of knowledge.
The modern Bibliotheca Alexandrina opened in 2002, creating a contemporary cultural landmark close to the site traditionally associated with the ancient library.
💡 Did You Know? Its most recognizable feature is the enormous tilted circular reading room, designed to evoke a rising sun and connect the building visually with the Mediterranean.
