Your Evening at Qaitbay Citadel, Step by Step
Arrive at Qaitbay Citadel before dark to photograph the citadel against the Mediterranean. Your Egyptologist guide explains how Sultan Al-Ashraf Qaitbay ordered the fortress built in 1477 on the foundations of the fallen Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
As evening falls over the Eastern Harbour, take your seat inside the citadel as the show begins. For about an hour, 3D projections, music, and narration in English, Arabic, German, French, Spanish, and Italian via translation devices turn the Mamluk walls into a living canvas.
They trace Alexandria's story from its founding by Alexander the Great through the Ptolemaic age of Cleopatra, the Lighthouse and the Great Library, and on to Roman, Coptic and Islamic Alexandria.
