The best time for a Nile cruise is the same peak window that suits temples: October to April. Sailing between Luxor and Aswan means long hours on an open sun deck, and in the cool, dry winter that's a joy rather than an endurance test — mid-20s by day, clear skies over Edfu and Kom Ombo, and comfortable evenings on the water. December and January are the most popular (and priciest) months, so cabins book out early. October, November, February and March give you almost the same weather with a little more breathing room. The Red Sea flips the calendar. While inland Egypt bakes, resorts like Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab enjoy warm, swimmable water from roughly April to November, when the sea sits around 24–28°C. Mid-summer (June to August) is the peak beach season — hot on land but perfect for lounging, snorkelling and diving, and often paired with cheaper flights than the winter high season. Spring and autumn are the sweet spot if you want warm water and comfortable air temperatures at the same time. They sit just outside the busy winter window: temperatures are hot but far from unbearable if you tour early and rest at midday, the major sites are noticeably quieter, and hotel and cruise rates drop. For the cheapest time to visit Egypt outright, look at June, July and August — the low season. The single biggest weather mistake first-timers make is underestimating summer in Upper Egypt. From June to August, Luxor and Aswan regularly hit 40–43°C, and standing in the open at the Valley of the Kings or Karnak at midday is genuinely draining. If you do travel in summer, treat the middle of the day as off-limits for outdoor sites: start at dawn, be indoors or by the water from around 11am to 4pm, and save the second sightseeing session for late afternoon. Drink far more water than feels necessary, wear a hat and light long sleeves, and don't try to pack too much into a single day.
